Workshop Wednesday

Our workshops are filling up and we are having some great discussions.

Recently one participant told a story of how his young daughter announced that she wanted to be a “spy” when she grew up.  Dad told her that was a great goal and that she would have to work hard in school to get good grades and go to college.  Then he added that she wouldn’t be able to do drugs or have sex because drugs would limit her ability to study and get good grades, and if she had sex, she might get pregnant and taking care of a baby would also prevent her from finishing school and becoming a spy.  Dad used skills he learned in the workshop to bring up the issue of drugs and how they would spoil her chances of realizing her dream. Go Dad!

Last week the group discussion centered around the concept of having fun without drugs or alcohol.  This can be a challenge for people that have addiction issues.  Some of the ideas were: board games, watching a movie together, outdoor activities like hiking or shooting hoops, and taking day trips.

This Saturday our topic is about handling the stress that comes with our busy lifestyles.  Stress can be a trigger for people with addiction issues and make them more vulnerable to relapse.  Often times, one family member’s addiction causes stress for rest of the family.  Stressed out Moms and Dads aren't fun to be around!

Join us this Saturday and learn about some coping techniques and tools to help you manage stress.
